Training Thursday…so much for Tuesday

I had in mind that I would do weekly updates each Tuesday on this half marathon endeavor, but Tuesday passed with no update. Here we have it, Training Tuesday Thursday.

I’m sure you all memorize my blog like you’re going to get quizzed on it, but just in case, let’s review the plan from last week:

Week 3 Plan

Monday – 3 miles @ 11:27
Wednesday – 4 Mi, including w/u; 2×1600 in 9:17 w/800 jogs; c/d
Saturday – 5 miles @ 11:27

Week 3 Actual

Monday – 3.13 miles @ 10:09
Wednesday – 3 miles – untimed – It was 90 degrees out when I ran, this was survival mode running, not a day for speed work.
Thursday – CrossFit: Suicide warm-up | 5 x 5 overhead squat @ 35#, 45#, 45#, 45#, 55# | 3 x 400M run + 8 power cleans @ 45#

Right. So I didn’t even come close to sticking to the plan.

On the docket for this week:

Week 4 Plan

Monday – 4 miles @ 11:25
Wednesday – 4 Mi, including w/u; 2 miles @ 9:42; c/d
Saturday – 5 miles @ 11:25

At this point my runs have not looked anything like the plan. So far:

Sunday – 4.13 miles @ 10:XX
Monday – 3.6 miles @ 10:03; I was going for 5 miles, but Kai wasn’t having it.
Tuesday – 3 miles @ 9:56

In other words, I am completely incapable of following the plan. Once upon a time I followed a marathon plan to the T for 16 weeks. Now I can’t seem to even get one week right. I’m still learning to run around my work schedule, daycare hours, bath time, and bed time. We’ll get there. Soon, I hope!

I think you’re doing great 🙂 Kids really do make everything harder than it used to be – so the 16 week marathon training plan followed to a T was your old life, your BK (before kids) life!!! I have not even attempted a training plan that has more than 3 days of running since i had my 2nd child. It is easier for me to get the 3 runs in and add cross-training days when I feel like it/can manage it than it is to schedule 4-5 days of running and fail immensely week after week. At least I feel good about myself doing it my way. You will find a system that works for you as well. Keep up the good work!!! Oh, and I bought a Groupon for 10 CF classes for $25 – I can’t commit to On Ramp until August so I’m waiting, but I’m pretty excited!!!

That’s awesome! I’m glad you’re trying it. I really enjoyed CrossFit, but I don’t know how realistic it is for me right now.

I don’t think I’ve ever followed a training plan exactly, and I’ve still survived through quite a few races. 😉 Not that it’s bad to stick with a plan, but I think flexibility has to be allowed too.

Haha! I am awesome at making plans, following them remains problematic. Your actual workouts are fantastic nevertheless!
