Run (or Not): May 8 – 14

While I wouldn’t call this week an epic fail workout-wise, I’m not super proud of it. Yeah, three days off. Hey! Sunny summer-like days, bring my motivation back! No worries, the forecast calls for rainy, chilly, and generally crummy weather here this week and I will be back in my groove.

So this weekend I did something very exciting, I got new shoes. I know that a lot of people, like Bree, prefer to lift in more minimal shoes and, a few years behind the bandwagon, my interest is sufficiently piqued and I have decided to join in the fun. I tried on a wide range of shoes, none with individual toe compartments, and selected a New Balance Minimus.


After my first lifting session in them, I am happy with them. I can definitely see how a shoe like this that allows your foot to function more naturally could improve your foot and ankle strength.

For those of you that are curious, I still plan to have orthotics made for my trusty Wave Creations before I make my running comeback. (Estimated comeback date 7/1/2011.)  What a pathetic comeback this might be. As much as I have tried to maintain my fitness level, biking =/= running, at least for me.

If nothing else, these are pretty cute shoes even for just going about my day-to-day activities in. I’m pretty stoked about them.

Sunday: rest
Monday: NROLFW Workout 5A4 + 45 minute spin class
Tuesday: rest – It was a beautiful, sunny day and Chris talked me into just hanging out outside instead of going  to the gym. It looks like he is a better bad influence on me than I am good influence on him.
Wednesday: NROLFW Workout 5B4 + 11.5 easy miles on the bike trainer
Thursday: 15 miles bike trainer – hard intervals
Friday: NROLFW Workout 7-1* + 50 minutes spin bike
Saturday: rest

*I decided to skip the optional Stage 6 of NROLFW. I have enjoyed the program for the most part, but I’m just ready to be done with it. I plan to do NROLFA (New Rules of Lifting for Abs) next. I’m not finished reading it yet, but so far it seems like it will be a good change of pace.

    Suuuper cute shoes! I am a faithful fan of New Balance. I don’t do any lifting, but if I have to start to justify some kicks like that, I’m not opposed to the idea…. 🙂

      They are technically trail running shoes…no lifting required! 🙂

    Those are cute shoes! Now that I am lifting at home (errr. plan to after this 1/2 marathon) I can go barefoot which is nice. I feel weird wearing shoes in my house anyway.

    I hear ya on the running. Years ago when I broke my foot that first bike ride where I got all sweaty and felt that good “I just worked out” feeling was great, but it didn’t quite compare.
